Milgard controls the entire production of every window and patio door—including the glass. Whether your window comes with the standard energy-efficient SunCoat® Low-E glass or with one of our many specialty glass options, an occasional cleaning is necessary to ensure clarity and exceptional performance.
NEVER use any of the following products on any part of your window or patio door as they may damage the glass surface or insulating seal.
Do you have a little dirt or a smudge on one of your frames? No problem. You can wash it with mild, nonabrasive soap and water. Never use abrasive or acidic cleaners as they might cause permanent damage to the frame finish. Always test cleaners in an inconspicuous area first. Wipe dry when finished. On certain occasions mild soap and water will not be sufficient to clean your vinyl windows. Please reference the list below of recommended and not acceptable cleaners:

You can identify your product by the Serial/Sales Order on the product. The number is located in the upper right or left-hand corner between the panes of glass. Please reference the Milgard Product Care Videos for instructions on locating your Sales Order number.
The answer varies, depending upon whether the condensation is on the Exterior Pane, the Interior Pane or Between the Panes.
Exterior Pane
Condensation on the outside of your windows or patio doors may occur during spring and in the fall, usually when cool nights follow a warm day. It is a result of moisture in the air exceeding certain limits and the temperature of the glass falling below the dew point in the air. Condensation on the exterior glass panes is a natural phenomenon, especially for energy-efficient insulating which restricts the airflow between the panes of glass. This condensation will evaporate once the day warms.
Interior Pane
Condensation on the inside of a window indicates the humidity levels inside the room are higher inside than outside. Excess moisture on the inside of a window is unsightly and obstructs your view. Follow these easy steps to reduce the risk of excessive condensation.
Between the Panes
When the seals along the outer perimeter of glass fail and allow moisture to penetrate the space between panes of insulated glass, your window or door will appear cloudy or fogged. Please check and make sure the glass does not have chemicals or pollutants on the outside surface. Once you confirm that the condensation is between the panes, the insulated glass unit will need to be replaced.
Painting your vinyl windows is considered an alteration to the vinyl finish and will result in the warranty being voided. Additionally, some paints, particularly dark colors, can cause heat buildup within leading to premature failure of the vinyl and possibly the insulated glass unit.
We do not suggest adding a tint to your window glass as this will void your warranty on the insulated glass unit. Applying tint can cause excessive heat to the insulated glass causing the unit to prematurely fail.

Typically, scratches in glass are the result of debris during construction or dirt on the glass. If care is not taken to lightly flush and remove the debris it could etch the glass surface resulting in a scratch. Milgard does not manufacture a product to remove glass scratches but there are companies that manufacture polishing compounds that remove scuffs, light scratches and deposits on glass that can't be cleaned with regular washing. As a guideline, if the scratch is deep enough to catch the edge of a fingernail, it's too deep to remove.
We do not recommend that you attach these types of items to the frames of our products even though they don't interfere with the operation of the products. Depending on the situation, it is possible to void part or all of the product warranty by making modifications, such as drilling into the frame, or blocking the weeping system.
Often times the top sash is not pushed completely in place to allow the retaining lip to engage the weather-stripping and hold it in place. Make sure the sash is completely raised to eliminate potential drifting.
Milgard ensures that the glass units manufactured in our facilities are of the highest quality upon delivery to our customers. Unfortunately there are issues regarding the storage, installation, and home construction that cannot be controlled by our company. Our residential window warranty isn't a "limited warranty" or a "limited lifetime warranty." It's a "Full Lifetime Warranty that includes parts and labor" for as long as you own your home. The distinction is that full warranties meet certain federal minimum standards for written warranties on consumer products while limited warranties do not. This means that, among other things, under a full warranty, the warrantor must repair or replace the products at no charge to the consumer, and may only refund the purchase price in fulfillment of the warranty when that's what the consumer requests. In contrast, under a limited warranty, the warrantor may charge service costs and fees related to repair or replacement. And even if parts and labor are provided at no charge under the limited warranty, the limited warrantor may reserve the right to refund the purchase price to the consumer in fulfillment of the warranty rather than making the repairs or replacing the products at no charge. Our Full Lifetime Warranty extends to the original purchaser/homeowner for as long as you own your home. Subsequent homeowners may still be covered under our warranty depending on the window purchase date.
Due to the fragile nature of window screens, a lifetime warranty is not provided. Milgard will replace any window or door screen frame and mesh that are defective in materials or workmanship at no charge to the Original Purchaser (including parts and labor) for the period of one (1) year after the date of purchase of the home for new construction or in other cases one (1) year from the installation of Milgard windows.
Though this may be alarming at first, water on the inside of you window may be present during rain storms. Our windows and patio doors have a specially designed "weep" drainage system with vented slots on the exterior bottom of our frames to protect the inside of your home. Proper maintenance of your weep system is required to assure proper drainage.
Registering your warranty online is a value added free service that simplifies your service experience, should you ever require it. Registering your warranty is not a requirement to be covered by the Milgard Full Lifetime Warranty.
