Rated 5 out of 5 by RobG Exactly what we wanted
We have casement black fiberglass windows. They refresh the look of the front of the house and the windows, themselves are beautiful. They appear well-built and the install process for the retrofits was painless and quick. We are happy with our purchase.

I am shocked at the quality of product that made it out the factory door. I felt Milgards' standards would be higher.

My wife and I seriously considered fiberglass windows from both Pella and Milgard. Both offer products of beauty and quality. We had quotes from both providers and Pella was willing to under cut the Milgard quote by 10%. However, Pella would not provide a Lifetime warranty. As warranty is a critical factor in the purchase decision for us, we selected Milgard.

by RAWAK I like the doors, but the needed handle extenders are not available.
The WoodClad patio doors work well. The rubber gasket on the sliding screen door doesn't seal and allows insects into the house. I showed that problem to the service tech. No help there. The wood(?) veneer on the inside of the door is extremely thin and with very light sanding to remove the soil left after the installation, I went through this veneer in a few place before I realized what was happening due to the sawdust obscuring the problem. Milgard should have had a warning on the door not to sand the veneer as it is not much more than paper thin. Of course bare wood gets dirty in shipping and handling. It now looks bad. The biggest problem with these patio doors is that I cannot fit my blinds on the door as the door handles are too close to the door. Only the narrowest of blinds would fit behind these door handles. The blinds need to drop down behind the door handle but there is not nearly enough clearance. I researched the problem and discovered that one can purchase "handle extenders." I emailed Milgard many months ago, twice, about which handle extenders would work with this door and they never replied to my emails. Most of my new Milgard windows wouldn't close due to a manufacturing error and after not being able to open or close the windows all summer I finally was able to use the windows after two tech visits, but a few still just barely close with more force on the latch than is normal. I can live with that. Back to the patio door problem. I took the door handle off the patio door and I don't see a handle extender that matches that handle, so after a few years we still don't have blinds on our patio doors. And Milgard hasn't answered any of my emails about this problem. If you sell patio doors you have to have handle extenders available for those doors, like other patio door manufacturers have.

I just had two new Milgard windows custom made for my newly remodeled kitchen. They were made to match the other Milgard windows I had installed 5 years ago. They are exactly what I wanted. The noise reduction and heat retention is great. Highly recommend these windows.

We had to send it back before installation because of two defects, one being a bottom sill runner that was peeling. A couple of months have passed and I already notice that the tan color is starting to come off this same runner. We spent a lot of time sealing, installing and framing the window so I am not about to take it out. Glad I have some warranty for down the line if it looks to bad.

Rated 4 out of 5 by StymiedBySingleHung Beautiful windows, but finishing single-hungs is problematic.
Installed casement and single-hung windows. Everything is fine except instructions that are on the window labels say to finish with a water-based polyurethane, which is fine for the casements, but the the bottom rail of the fixed pane is only partially accessible. No instructions are provided as to how to disassemble (and re-assemble) the window to be able to do a complete job. With the movable pane open, the entire bottom rail of the non-movable pane is visible and will be, at best, half finished. At worst, and likely, it will have drips of the polyurethane, which will definitely show. Is there a trick to taking out the movable pane so complete access to the hidden rail is available? I think this would also allow removal of at least some of the hardware for a neater job. I would like to apply the finish as suggested but feel stymied.

by HerbCDM Worst customer service
Had a brand new house built and the builder raved about the warranty on Milgard windows. I live in Southern California where it rains abhout 3 times a year. The first storm came and two windows leaked. They sent their "most experienced" technician out who tinkered around and they leaked again the next time it rained. Now the customer service rep: Robin is telling me that excessive water runs down the side of the house and that is out of the ordinary for their windows. It might have rained an eighth of an inch last night and they leaked again. There is no way excessive water could run against my window with that little rain. They are just cheap poorly constructed windows. It appears the company is taking no responsibility.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Hi8diver Great look - nice operation
Our Ultra Series in-swing French Doors look great and the way they operate is second to none! The locking mechanism it easy to use and gives you a feeling your real secure when all locked up. Further, when you want booth doors open, it's easy to unlatch the stationary door. Great, well thought out product that looks good.

Very happy with the design of the doors and the look of the hardware, but the door hardware and deadlock are awful and poorly function. Easily able to shut door, but unable to lock door and feel confident door is locked properly when leaving. Went to showroom to see if it was our installation or a pour design and had the same issues trying to lock door at showroom.

Rated 1 out of 5 by CaliforniaHomeOwner WoodClad windows use fake wood
SGK sold me Milgard windows to match the Marvin windows installed by the previous owner. The WoodClad is a joke. It is "wood" is actually contact paper over a vinyl window. The advertising says, "Milgard windows feature furniture-grade, clear, vertical-grain Douglas fir." There is no way the frames are furniture-grade. They also say, "have a beautiful vertical grain Douglas Fir interior that is ready to take your stain or seal coat." Other than paint, you really cannot change the color of coating, as you can with real wood. Clear coating makes the 'wood' look fake.

The reason that I would not recommend this company is the customer service. Have to wait months for an appointment. Then have to wait months for a part and more waiting to get the part installed. The handles chip. The hardware for side lights on a French door are impossible to open. The screens were made to big and wouldn't slide. Could not get resolved so had screens made through a screen company.

Rated 5 out of 5 by JCSII Screen latch replacement
I am not sure of the specific product name because we installed the doors and windows 25 years ago. My concern is with the follow up service on the door rollers and screen door latches. The door rollers needed to be be replaced. I could not get an appointment for more than three weeks after I called. I also could not get the latches repaired even though I made 4 phone calls and sent photos of the broken latches. I was sent latches on two different occasions but they were the wrong size. I finally had to get replacements from Orchard Supply Hardware. The service person did not have the necessary parts to repair both doors even though I advised the order taker that both doors needed to be serviced.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Jayco It's a very will constructed product and Milgard stands behind it's warranty great.
The only reason I never gave this product a perfect review is after about 10 yrs (2) of my windows and (1) sliding door lost their seal and had moisture between the glass panels. Milgard was great about sendinding their repair crew out immediately and replaced the panels. I'm a retired General Contractor and these windows were in my own home.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Ibonken The Ultra Series is a good series purchase
We installed 3 Ultra Series Sliding Glass Doors and 1 French Double Door and 4 Ultra Series Windows as well at this point. We did this thru a program with Home Depot which has allowed us to install these great windows and doors from Milgard. We installed the doors this past Fall of 14 and the the new windows in Dec. 14. At this point we truly pleased!!! I have had small issues that needed addressed with the doors and Milgard Customer Service was great!!! We still need to install several more windows and we plan on doing this still with Home Depot and the Milgard Ultra Series line.

Although I am pleased with the product, I am disappointed at the fact they do not service any issues regarding replacement of glass or screen frames to match the windows. If they are not a service company they should be able to refer experienced companies who do to back up their product.

by OCcustomer Don't waste your money
We ordered the Ultra series out-swing french doors with sidelights and screen. The sidelights feature is very poorly designed because the screens are on the inside instead of the outside as one would expect. It is awkward to have to push the screen to open it, then unlatch the sidelight door, which is placed way to close to the inside of the frame, making it extremely difficult to open. Then you would shut the screen again to keep the bugs out. Despite asking several vendors about the outswing french doors, not one person mentioned this flaw in design for the sidelights. In fact, they sold us on the feature that the sidelights would open in (therefore, the screens would be on the outside, which is reasonable). I hope Milgard will change this bad feature of the door so that the sidelights open in--and make it easier to unlatch the door by not placing the handle so close to the frame. I was told that because we ordered the Ultra Series, the sidelights only open in the direction the french doors open. Also, paint on the hinges easily chipped off exposing an unprimed hinge underneath. I was highly disappointed in this product and wish we had been given proper information from the vendors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Jae6and7 Years of use and not a single problem!
This is the second house I've used Milgard windows in.
In the year 2002, I put Milgard windows in my 7th house, located in Durango, CO. That house is now a rental of mine. Not a single problem with any of them in all that time. There are some sliders, some casements and one awning. They all open, close and lock like new to this day. Interior screens, low-e double paned glass were what drew me to them originally. Some were replacements for insecure, old aluminum windows that were terribly inefficient, had a lot of solar gain in the summer, and many had failing seals. Others were casement and awning styles for the additional rooms created with a remodel, and replacements for the upper floor rooms. What a huge difference they made in sound transmission (so little afterwards) and no more air leakage. The energy bills really dropped for both winter and summer.
When it came time to redo my current personal home in 2011 (which is house #6 for me), I had 4 casement Ultra windows, with low-e triple panes, put into a new addition (my new office) on the 2nd floor, over the living room. Two windows face directly east, one south and one north. They are perfect! I've never had any issues with them at all either. Love that the screens are inside mounted as it makes cleaning the windows so easy. There is virtually no outside noise from the backyard and neighbors anymore, when they are closed, and no solar gain either. The room is very quiet and very comfortable temperature-wise too. With the summer sun shining on them, if you put your hand on the glass, there is very little heat passing through. Keeps the office cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
I also had an awning Ultra window installed on the west side of the house in another new addition I call the nook. It's actually an extension across the hall from my new office space, and is above the front foyer of the house. Currently, the room is used as another office space for my child and has bookshelves too. I also use the nook myself for non-work reading (cookbooks, travel books, art books) and file storage. The awning window faces due west. It's also triple paned low-e, and an inside mounted screen. When I sit at the nook desk, I hear almost no street noise at all, and there's very little solar gain. This nook also stays warm in the winter and cool in the summer, so no air leaking at all.
So, after witnessing the wonderful virtues of the new windows, I decided to change out ALL my other windows on the first floor of the house to the Ultra series. In the basement I went with a different series from Milgard that are side sliders. What a difference they have all made in the noise coming in, the security of my house, and best of all, the energy efficiency. No more drafty rooms! I haven't had any issues with any of them. I still have more to install on the 2nd floor in the bedrooms, but these aren't going in until 2015, due to circumstances that prevented me from changing all of them earlier.
I've had family members, some friends and many neighbors came over to see my whole house remodeling since I started it in 2011. They always notice how comfortable it is inside, and how quiet my house is too. I tell them it's the windows! It's why I chose these. Two sets of friends, one family member, and 3 neighbors have now switched out their old drafty windows to Milgard Ultras too. They have all said they too were very happy with the results.
In general, fiberglass window frames have fewer problems than any other style of window I've ever lived with. They are far less likely to react to exterior and/or interior environmental changes. And, by the way, I've lived in no less than 16 different homes and apartments in my lifetime. I think some other people here maybe have issues for various reason. Often it's the fault of the installer, and not the windows themselves. They might have soil movement and/or house shifting issues, or more humidity where they live, which can make a big difference in performance too.
When I start building my next house in 3 years, a straw bale one, I'm going to use Milgard Fiberglass windows again, and likely their doors too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Alison14 The Milgard ULTRA product and professional installation exceeded my expectations!
Window replacement began as a stressful process until a contractor/friend recommended Milgard. We discussed in detail all factors important to me. I was able to narrow down the manufacturer and product line to Milgard ULTRA; I then decided on new window construction (nail fin). Next step was to find a "professional" company to order and install the 9 windows. Cunningham Doors & Windows (Santa Ana, CA) provided the best customer service. Their installers did an extraordinary job on every window. I have neighbors stop to admire and inquire about these new windows -- wow! My family is very pleased with the Milgard ULTRA windows.

I'm fairly jaded when it comes to warranty repairs of anything:
in fact I forgot my 1996 installed widows and doors had the "lifetime warranty" until a friend advised me of the fact.
Still somewhat wary,
I called the service representative,
and have received competent, cordial, and effective repair
of both two sliding doors and two fixed windows.
I do not impress readily,
but I AM impresssed..

by MountainCustomCabinetry Great windows
I am a contractor in Arizona. When I went looking for windows for my own home I did alot of research about windows for a hot climate. Milgard Ultra came out on top. I installed twelve casement windows 8 years ago and have been exceptionally pleased with them. The 3D glass system is amazing, our home is radically more comfortable in the summer. We live on a busy street and the traffic noise reduction is probably 90% over our old aluminum sliders. The white fiberglass frames show little to no signs of aging after 8 years in full desert sun. The operating mechanisms have had no issues and the windows still operate fine. I have had only two minor issues with these windows; the screens have sliding retaining pins in the four corners, but they are a pain to install because the pins don't line up well with the window and the pins get sticky and won't slide. I believe the newer window screens have a better retaining system. The only service issue I have had in eight years was with the outermost weather stripping. It is exposed to the elements, and the original product failed ( became sticky, decomposed and retained dirt). I contacted Milgard and they came out and replaced all of it, no problem. Lifetime Warranty!!
I highly recomend these windows, my only regret is that soon after I purchased them Milgard came out with an even BETTER glass system, 3D Maxx South. They have a HUGE list of available options with these windows, I have sold these windows to my customers since 2006 and the feedback from them has been equally positive. The price is competative with other premium windows, value is unbeatable in my opinion.
