Beautiful Windows Enhance an Ocean View

A 1930’s beach cottage in Lincoln City, Oregon was the perfect home for family vacations. But when the homeowners decided to make it their primary residence in retirement, it needed a lot of work.

Modern Home Design

They asked Giulietti/Schouten Architects in Portland to come up with a modern design that would take advantage of the ocean view from as many vantage points as possible. The homeowners also wanted a home that would be functional for their current lifestyle, and to age-in-place into the future.

The architect chose Milgard Essence Series® windows for their durability against beachfront elements, and for the beautiful wood interior which accented the minimalistic design.

Floor-to-Ceiling Windows

Floor-to-ceiling windows and a sloping roof allowed the focus of the home to remain on the magnificent ocean views. The clean, contemporary interior was enhanced by the warm fir wood window frames. A central floating staircase and skylights added to the openness of the space.

Custom Home Building

Jake Weber of Giulietti/Schouten Architects offers this advice to those considering a custom home or major remodel. “One of the biggest surprises to clients when they first meet with us is how long it takes to design and build a custom house. This project, for instance, took a little over two years from the initial design phase to completion of construction.” He goes on to say, “Every project truly is a product of the client, and as a result, a unique building – each taking on a style of their own.”
