It all began in 1936 when George Winterhalder, while employed with Santa Cruz Lumber Company, saw a business opportunity and formed the San Lorenzo Lumber Company along with fellow employees James, Newt, and Bob Maddock. Strong family values and close community ties, proved to be a winning combination and San Lorenzo Lumber Company flourished.
Today, San Lorenzo Lumber & Home Centers is owned by Builders FirstSource (BFS), the largest professional building materials supplier in the United States. BFS currently operates approximately 400 facilities in 40 states, with a market presence in 74 of the top 100 metro markets. On a local level, San Lorenzo Lumber has a long legacy in the Santa Cruz community and continues to provide the highest standard of customer service.
With over 150 employees, San Lorenzo is ready to meet the needs of homeowners, contractors and builders in the greater Santa Cruz, Monterey and San Jose metro areas.
