Essence Series® Out-Swing French Doors is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 214.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Trouble latching We purchased several windows. Most operate without a problem but with the wider windows, I cannot get them to latch properly without a great deal of difficulty. I tend not to even open them anymore and am waiting for a Milgard representative to come out and inspect them

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice Patio Door, AverageQuality Control Purchased and had installed an Essence Series french door-style patio door to replace an old vinyl slider. Fiberglass exterior with clear fir wood interior. Door is very solid and looks good, particularly the warm wood interior finish. Unfortunately, there are quality control issues on this door that prevent me from giving this 5-stars. First, the weather stripping on the hing-side of the door was damaged upon arrival allowing light and air to move between the door and frame. I am currently working with warranty services to get this item replaced. Second, center mullion between the two door halves, was cut about 1/4 too short leaving a big gap between the top of the mullion and the door frame. The repair tech's solution was to fill the gap with sealant which will probably just fine but would have been avoidable with better quality control. Third, the finish on the hinges and the door handles don't match. They are suppose to both be finished as brushed nickle but they are two different colors.Though this is a cosmetic issue, I would have preferred they match 100% but they don't It looks like handles and hinges were sourced from two different vendors. Nice door overall, but I can't rate them any higher than 3-stars due to average quality control.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful windows, chunky frame These windows are very nice, feel solid and meet the stringent CA energy efficiency standards. Glad I got them, but wish I'd realized how chunky the frame is. It's basically almost four inches on each side, so you lose a lot of light. Exterior is contemporary looking and very nice. I'll order the same for the rest of our remodel, but will go with the larger size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from smooth operation, attractive style I'm replacing windows and doors in my 54 year old house. Milgard windows are perfect replacements. Glasswork by Design is the company that installed them. Installation is as important as the quality of the product--couldn't be happier!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Beautiful but doesn’t close They look great but they came with wrong hardware and were hard to close. When someone came to replace the hardware and fix the shutting issue they made the closing worse and the door won’t lock at all. Still waiting on the 3rd trip to our home to be scheduled and sincerely hope they can fix the doors so they open close and lock smoothly. Otherwise what did I spend all this money on?

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Waiting on warranty issue The window in the door rattles when it is closed and we are concerned water will get in and damage the frame.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MILGARD WINDOWS The windows doors are great. The problem is, it takes a couple of months to receive service if they don`t loose your request. very disturbing, considering the price of them.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst Customer Service and Quality Control Ever!! Used Milgard replacement windows 10 years ago and liked them. Ordered two more double-hung windows in July 2018. Both arrived with the wrong springs so would not stay open (a problem that should have been recognized at the factory because tempered glass was used) and did not have a finger hook/sash lifter for the top window. Three weeks later a tech came to figure out what the problem was and ordered parts. Five weeks later the correct springs were installed but the sash lifters were the wrong color. Eight weeks after that the wrong lifters were sent (for slide-by windows), along with another set of springs that weren't needed. Now we're told we'll have to pay to have the lifters installed because they weren't part of the original order. Why does the upper moveable sash not automatically have a lifter included when the lower sash does? Our previous replacement windows had an upper lifter. Why aren't sales personnel warned of this issue (we weren't offered finger hooks/upper lifters as an add-on). The very narrow frame of the upper window at the lock makes the upper sash almost impossible to move down without a finger hook. It is now the end of January 2019 and the windows still aren't right! Note that it took at least 8 weeks each time to get new hardware and 10 weeks to get the custom windows in the first place. Does that make any sense? The only positive thing I can add is that the technicians who came to the house were pleasant. One star rating only because I couldn't rate 0 stars. We will never use Milgard again and recommend you don't either.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from The windows are very good We ordered one style and they shipped a differant style, . We re-ordered the correct style again, they shipped the wrong size. We re-ordered again , they shipped one that was still the wrong size. This experience started in June, to be completed in Aug 2018, this is Jan 2019 and we are still waiting for delivery of the final window. We ordered 23 windows and spent a lot of money and we have a barn full of the wrong size windows and still have not been able to contact "customer service"

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Door We replaced a sliding glass door with in-swing French doors. We found this Milgard door that allowed us to have natural stained wood inside and fiberglass outside. The door is now installed and is t truly beautiful. It is a big upgrade and a beautiful addition to our home.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Warning- Do Not Buy Swinging Doors From Milgard I had four Essence and one Tuscany swinging door installed September 2018. Total cost $10,000 before installation. The 3 - 0 doors actually have doors that are only 34" wide! When did a 3-0 door become 34" ? The doors were very difficult for the carpenters to install and once installed did not close or lock properly. They required strong slamming to latch properly, which caused the house walls to shake. The locking mechanisms were too tight and misaligned to twist properly into their locking slots. Milgard repair technicians came out and adjusted them and replaced some of the weather stripping and actually filed on the latch hardware in an attempt to make the doors close and lock. They were "OK" for a few days, however soon failed again to close or lock properly. Another Milgard technician came out and looked at the doors and agreed with me they are a faulty product. Apparently these swinging doors are a relatively new Milgard product that they sell very few of. He replaced the weather stripping on one door and said there was nothing he could do for the other four - so I am stuck apparently with faulty, poorly designed products for which this manufacturer is basically saying too bad for you!! For $2000 per door they should open and close and lock by themselves - but instead they do none of this even when Milgard's trained technicians are operating them.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Beautiful wood, poorly jointed, overpriced. We purchased the Milgard Essence windows, double hung, with the pine wood finish. They were installed in March 2018 and the installers did a good job, but once they were in and we really looked at them we are disappointed for what we paid. They have some nice modern features but none of that makes up for the below average workmanship on the wood portions of the windows - that's what we paid so much for, or so we thought. I planned to post pictures with the review but it doesn't look I am able to do that. These are very expensive windows so our expectations were high, but as many other reviewers pointed out, the joinery work is consistently poor and misaligned in spots on probably half of the windows we received. The pine is also very soft and a few of them came marred or lightly dented before installation. Additionally, some of the wood pieces are finned, not glued, but are not really meant to be removed or changed, which makes no sense (obviously it is to save cost on Milgard's end). We have had to pop certain wood paneling back into the various slots or glue them in ourselves to get them to stay put. We upgraded our home from its original early 1900s single pane windows, so the improvements in heat/cooling retention seem to be significant. They are not drafty either as far as we can tell. Popping the screens in and out is also simple, as is removing the windows themselves from the sashes when you need to clean them. The locking features are nice but one of them already needs to be replaced. Good luck if you need to schedule a warranty visit - we are in Denver and it took months to get someone out here to tell us that oh, those panels popping off? That's normal. Your bedroom window doesn't ratchet closed because a spring is wrong? Sorry, need to schedule another appointment. There are obviously more expensive options out there, but the Essence line is billed as a premium window and in reality, it is not.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best Door Company We purchased o ur first door 12 years ago. The door sustained water damage from a failed weather strip. Milgard sent a technician within a week and once the door was inspected they agreed to replace the door. The original door was no longer available and they upgraded to the Essence Series. What a beautiful and well built door.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from They look great They look great on the inside and out. They went in easily. The hardware for the casement looks solid and the slider comes out easily. The cost was a big deciding factor because it was much lower pella or anderson.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Look beautiful! We had very old single pane windows that leaked horribly. I am so pleased with the crisp look and the quietness they afford us. I love them!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible Terrible Terrible and even more Terrible So the wrong size keeps getting sent and this project keeps getting delays. At first they put argon in the windows at sea level and then shipped them to Denver - and of course the seals broke! All had to be replaced. This was in February 2018. Its now November and we are still awaiting 1 window after the first installation 8 months ago (no that is not a typo). And this does not include the two garage windows that look like my 12 year old made them which will need to be replaced for the third time. Yes read that again. They keep messing up and will need to replace it again, again and again! We have spent hours and hours due to their mistakes. Maybe the worst quality control for a premium product I have encountered. I wish I could include a photo of the windows. No-one would EVER spend their money on these windows if I could.
Date published: 2018-11-03
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor finish quality We purchased the above windows (5 Total) to replace the single pane old windows at the front of our house. When the windows were delivered i was struck by the poor workmanship at each of the exterior fiberglass joints, none of the joints are even and once the windows were installed this flaw became very evident. The windows have be installed for approximately 3 months and the caulking / sealant of the exterior joints appears to be failing. For the cost of these windows this really should not be happening and definitely not after 3 months

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Would shop some more The windows are difficult to latch. The tabs on the screens are junk. We enclosed a porch. Builder recommended Milgard. Of the six windows only one latches with reasonable ease, four are a challenge and one is IMPOSSIBLE. Of the six window screens, one of the tabs broke within the first six months. Today, we were pulling the screens out for winter. Four more tabs broke! The windows are less than 2 years old. The rest of the house has stock windows from Home Depot. NONE of those windows have been any problem. Those windows are about 6 years old. Before you settle on Milgard be sure to look at other alternatives.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What an improvement! We have ordered six Essence windows this year. First, we ordered one awning style window for our kitchen remodel. We wanted to make sure it matched a similar style wood clad Milgard sliding door we installed several years ago. We were so pleased with the quality and appearance of this window that we decided to order five more Essence windows for our main living areas. We ordered one double-hung, three horizontal sliders and one picture window. All were made exactly to specification and fit our openings perfectly. Our contractor installed all five windows over two days with my help. I spent the next two months slowly and methodically cutting, staining, painting and finishing out the interior facings and trim of the windows. The end result is beautiful. We look forward to many years of great views, better thermal efficiency and added beauty to our home. A number of our neighbors have commented on the beauty of these new windows and the enhanced appeal of our home. (I wish we could post pictures to this review)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceeded my expectations I've been a Pella fan for many years but my contractor suggested Migard instead ... we purchased the high grade series of windows by Midgard and I must say we're so pleasantly pleased.... I will not be buying Pella anymore... the install was a breeze ( unlike the other brand) and the finished product is very nice.
