Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality product Very pleased with the quality and appearance of the sliding door and sliding window. They were easy to install but the door was heavy so it took 4 of us to set it in place. It was worth the effort. The interior douglas fir frame is clear and very well crafted. Both slide effortlessly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Quality Control on French Doors Personally own approximately 300 Milgard products. Spent $5500 for each French door without installation cost. The product came nicely packaged and doors looked great. There were so many issues some critical that would make me not recommend this product. 1. Lock on the door installed backwards. The keyed portion is on the inside. 2. The exterior screw hole in the fiberglass is too small for the provide plugs. 3. Screens do not fit in sidelights. 4. Sidelight latching mechanism does not work. 5. Wavy top of sidelight interior wood (not even) Trying to get a tech out to check on this...hopefully they have good warranty service.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Solution for a Historic Home Purchased a historic property in Dallas Texas and needed a great window that was true to the original design. The fit and finish is great and the wood window helps return the home to its original grandeur. Great product and great solution

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Issues with Essence horizontal sliders I purchased seven windows a couple months ago. Three of which are Essence horizontal sliders. Upon installation, the three sliders will not close and latch. The windows were installed plumb and square. We contacted a local service rep and he came out to inspect. Seems to be a manufacturing and/or shipping issue. They are supposed to replace sashes for two of the windows under warranty. Very disappointed, as these are expensive windows and the initial quality is poor.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from poor repair time- 2 plus years It should not take 2 years and multiple e mails to get windows replaced that had "Writing" inside between the glass. The hardware is now not working. Very disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far, so good. I've only had the windows a few weeks but am pleased with them so far. They seem very solidly made, installation was straightforward and so far operation is very good.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good on the outside not so good on the inside I had custom windows made with fiberglass on the outside and wood on the inside. What I am noticing is that there are wood particles from cutting remaining in the edges the divided light pieces on the outside. There is no way to clean this out. Also the wood divided light pieces are cut short of some sides leaving a 1/16th inch gap. Further the other parts of the wood frame are put together without care. I would never spend the money for wood again. The other production materials have a better finish. I would have expected a much higher quality for a $600+ small window. I'm not so sure there is anything to do about it now that they are installed. Though I suppose I should look into it. It also took 6 weeks to get these windows in and there were only 2 of them. I'm not very thrilled.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Essence Series Windows Can Be Disassembled Great casement Windows. The interior wood framing pieces can be removed by hand and finished separately outside of the window frame. Terrific! Ninety percent of finishing (stain, urethane, or paint) can be done on a flat table free of runs, drips, and transfer of finish from one piece to the next as is the case when all of the pieces are installed into the frame. When you are ready simply press or lightly tap the framing pieces back into the frame. I saved a thousand dollars doing my own finishing on three Essence windows. Sweet.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from New windows/patio doors For the most part, we are so excited with our Millard patio doors and windows. Love love love the fiberglass outside of large patio frenchdoors and the inside grids are fantastic! Our only surprise is that 3 of the 4 large bay picture windows are fogged every morning. We were told by our installer that this is common, due to inside vs outside temp. However, since this is why we replaced our old windows, we are surprised. So far, they do clear as outside temp rises, so maybe they are correct. Would just be nice to rise early to enjoy our view.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Window looks good, Milgard is a joke May be Milgard doesn't sell that many essence series but I had a horrible experience with the company. They delayed my order by 3 months, missed deliveries multiple times and still made windows that are not fitting well. I reached out several times to the area sales manager, inside sales and the distributor and was bounced around without any information.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Huge Disappointment I purchased my Milgard doors with the notion of excellent product, recognized name brand quality. I was so disappointed to receive three doors, all of which were flawed and damaged. It took Milgard over 6 months to try and fix the doors I had professionally installed and then to finally settle because I could not continue to take days off work to meet their service technicians who would come out and tell me "I don't know why they told you I could do that" and then arrive with wrong parts and information, not to mention that I went through Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays with unfinished trimmed out doors because it dragged out so long.. Last month my daughter opened on of the French doors and the handle came off in her hand! I am so, so disappointed in the end result and it is unfortunate the experience our household had to go through and we still need to purchase a 4th door and new windows which will have to be from another manufacturer and most likely will not match, because I refuse to support Milgard. I know I am not alone as I have had conversation with many home builders in Kitsap County and they all have shared their frustration with Milgard, their products and lack of customer service to rectify the issues. To this moment every time I use one of the doors, I am reminded of the poor quality and how I wish I could just start over and have chosen another Product that was not Milgard!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Good I have replaced all the windows in our house with Milgard product and all went well and have been holding up very well. Then about 2 yrs ago we wanted our sliding glass patio door replaced and went with the top of the line Milgard wood sliding door. Not cheap but the door itself is very good and works well. BUT, the screen door they installed is terrible! It jams and will not work well. We had some of their folks come out and "adjust it a while ago" but it still is not working well. We were over at our neighbors house, who we recommended Milgard product to and looked at their Milgard sliding patio door. They have a vinyl sliding door and we have the wood door. What I found was that their sliding screen door works very well. Why? Because the sliding door designs are completely different. The one on the wooden door stinks and the one on the vinyl door is great! We went to the local Milgard showroom and showed people there the same problems we are seeing on their wooden display door in their showroom. And then also showed them the much better vinyl door screen slider. They told me maybe it just needs adjustment, although I think it is a bad design on the wooden door screen and this screen should not be used. The the final blow when I called the Customer Help phone line and was told that the company that advertises that they guarantee their products forever, do not make the screen doors they sell, and this the screen door only has a 2 yr warranty! So now what I have a screen door that does not work on my $5000 patio door! I would not recommend anyone buy the sliding screen doors for the wooden patio doors.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor Quality Control We just had 16 Vertical Grain Douglas Fir windows and a sliding door installed in our vacation home in Truckee, CA. These replaced similar units (primarily Double Hung) that were approximately 30 years old and were showing signs of their age – fogging, the inability of the upper windows to stay in place without support from pieces of dowel, and difficulty locking. Upon installation of the new units, it was noted that three windows had been delivered with the incorrect spacers (Foam versus the ordered EdgeGardMAX) and as these specific units are parts of two sets of Bay Windows, the difference is very noticeable and will require replacement. With the prep work already underway for the clear lacquer spray finish for the windows/trim, our painter will now have to disregard these two sets of Bay Windows until such time we can obtain a confirmation from Milgard Customer Service (Case #04966919) as to their proposed remedy. If that remedy cannot be completed while the painter is on site, we will have to attempt to schedule him for a later date and once he is available, live through the issues related to once again having to spray lacquer in our home. Additionally, it was determined that on approximately half of the windows the SmartTouch Lock would not engage when you closed the bottom window. As a remedy, we resorted to our old ways of pushing up the top window while simultaneously, pushing down on the lower one to ensure the unit was locked. While Milgard states “The SmartTouch window lock mechanism operates effortlessly. One smooth, single motion opens or closes the window, and locks it. No pinching, squeezing or twisting,” it appears that’s not always the case. This issue has also been included in a second service request (Case #04969071).

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Windows that were delivered were inoperable We ordered Milgard Essence windows. The product that was delivered was not good. The SmartTouch locks would not lock. The liners were warped. Now (in the fifth week of installation) we learned that nearly all sashes will need to be replaced and it will take another 2-3 weeks. The windows look good - but that doesn't help if they won't work.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Customer Service Lousy, very lousy customer service. "That's not our responsibility, you'll have to call the certified dealer who sold you the windows." The dealer is no longer in business. Milgard says "sorry."

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Problems We have had nothing but problems with the vinyl French door that was installed in 2007. We have had it adjusted repeatedly and since the company that sold the Milgard doors and windows has gone out of business we have not been able to even get a phone call back to have this door addressed. Apparently they do not stand by their product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very disappointed The SunCoat Max completely ruins an otherwise quality product (Essence with Douglas fur interior sashes). Not recommended for residential use. The dark green glazing has a modern industrial look. Looks awful on our Victorian home. Deceiving Milgard photo gallery that fails to depict how dark the glazing is.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Be very, very patient The first order was returned because it was broken; delay #1. The next delivery was OK but the wrong pane was tempered so the new one is on its way and will be installed...later. Delay #2. I'm sure it will be done, eventually but delay, delay. The other slider barely closes - it has to be slammed. Hard. "It will ease up" they tell us. Sigh.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from ISSUES WITH PRODUCT AND SUPPORT Purchased two sets of in-swing doors among other products. One set was fine. The second had a problem opening the active door and shutting it. It was scraping on the bottom to the point that the inside wood was being pulled away when the door was being closed. On 5/6/19 I called support. I was told that Milgard was not responsible for adjusting the door. I said I thought it was a defect because the installer had adjusted the door but she refused to dispatch a technician. I was asked for a picture of the part. I told them I did not know how to take a picture of the underside of the door without taking the door off the hinges and again requested she dispatch a technician. They again said no that the best they could do was ask for pictures and then review them. I asked to speak with a supervisor and was told thatvthe supervisor was on vacation. She said she would send me an email address to which to send the pictures.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Average Quality Control Just finished framing and installing the French Slider for my personal home but have to say the quality is high, but also low. The advertised quality control is false marketing, too many issues missed to dismiss as a one off or an oddity in manufacturing. The door rollers have an adjustment Phillips screw but adhesive overflowed into the access hole on both and it was crazy hard to clean it without damaging the clear fir wood. The screws holding the frame/case were backing out and I had to use new/larger stainless screws to secure before I installed. One glass wood trim is milled so poorly you can see the mis fit from 6 feet away. The screen door was missing the lock mechanism. Just know that you need to be aware, and Milgard.... you need to hold up your end if you say your QC is top priority

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not impressed! We have been in our home about 7 years now and we noticed that our great room windows were looking filmy and then realized that the seals were gone. When we had a window company to come out and give us a quote for replacing the windows, we were shocked that the dates on the current window were from 2006 and 2011 (talked to the previous owner and found out the windows were installed in 2006, but they had to have some of the window windows replaced in 2011 due to broken seals). I contacted Milgard in Colorado and was transferred to a Customer Service Department. The first call was pleasant, the representative asked me to email the serial numbers and dates of installation from the windows. We provided this information the same day and did not hear anything back. We emailed the Service Department about three days later, still no response. We called back about two weeks after the initial call and was told that the window industry is "scratching their heads" trying to figure out how to stop seals from breaking and that they would research our address and get back to us. We did receive an email back, stating that because we are second homeowners, the warranty expired in 10 years, so we are out of warranty and gave us a number to a service repairman that we could use. We understand how this all works, but as a company, I would not be proud that our product did not last 13 years (8 years for the windows that were installed in 2011). We did ask to have a manager call us, but not surprisingly, we have not heard anything back.
