For 27 years, James Saribalis has owned this beautiful 1920’s California bungalow in Vallejo, California. Unfortunately the last time replacement windows were installed, the wood trim was not done properly, leading to extensive rot and termite damage. In addition to the deterioration of the trim, the old windows were not energy efficient, so, the homeowner wanted to bring everything up to code. The challenge for the Carey Brothers, was to maintain the architectural detail and vintage style integrity of the home while providing a durable, long lasting, quality windows the homeowner could enjoy for years to come. Plus, matching the existing arch topped window style and the grid patterns were a must.
Milgard Tuscany® Series vinyl windows were selected for the project. The Carey Brothers use Milgard because they manufacture their own vinyl compound that contains no fillers. This assures quality and consistency which helps Milgard vinyl window & door products remain durable over time and require low maintenance. Also, because Milgard creates custom windows to meet size specifications, they were able to provide the wide variety of configurations needed, including the double hung operating style desired. Over twenty replacement windows were installed to match the look and feel of this classic cottage. The need for energy efficiency meant that dual pane windows were selected that adhered to ENERGY STAR® requirements in California. This provided Mr. Saribalis with a home that is better insulated to help reduce energy usage in the winter and protect against heat build-up during the summer.
