Milgard Supports MICOP with Funding for Education and Job Training

Simi Valley, CA (Sept 16, 2019) – Milgard Windows & Doors donated $10,000 to Mixteco/Indigena Community Organizing Project (MICOP) to support their English as a Second Language and self-sufficiency education and training programs.

Funds will be used to continue literacy and education classes for adults that help reduce barriers to employment.  In addition, MICOP’s interpretation services can aid local agencies so they can better communicate with their Mixteco-speaking clientele.

“We have a focus on diversity and inclusion here at Milgard,” said Alex Rivera, Sr. HR Business Partner for Milgard. “We are always looking for new employees to join the team and we are excited to have candidates sent to us from MICOP.”

Through the partnership, MICOP will highlight entry level workforce opportunities at Milgard in the hope that their training participants can find gainful employment.

“This grant is vital to helping us sustain our literacy program for adults, which has been historically underfunded, yet life changing for many of our clients,” said Donna Foster, MICOP Operations Manager. “Our dedicated learners come after working long hours in the fields to accomplish their goal of literacy. The rewards for their efforts are many, including better job prospects, helping their young children with homework, and raising self-esteem. We are very grateful to Milgard Windows & Doors for their support of our programs that empower and organize the indigenous community in Ventura County!”

This donation was part of the #MascoMillionDifferences initiative. Masco Corporation has committed $1,000,000 of its 2019 charitable contributions to its “Masco Million Differences” campaign, which supports diversity and more inclusive practices in America’s corporate workplaces.
