casement windows

Casement Windows

No obstructive railings, easy hand-crank open, and interior screens make these windows perfect for installation in virtually any area of the home.

Casement Window

A casement window is hinged at the side and opens outward like a door. It looks like a picture window because unlike double hung or sliding windows, a casement window has no rail. Some casement windows are simply pushed open, but most have a hand crank. Screens are placed on the inside of the window, where they're more protected from the elements. If you're installing windows over a sink, countertop or appliance, a casement window with a crank can be the perfect solution.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding product. Outstanding Contractor. Milgard Windows is an outstanding product. Would highly recommend Milgard windows to others. Albrecht and Son, LLC did an outstanding job with the window installation. They were very knowledgeable, professional and above all, very customer oriented. I would highly recommend this contractor to others on a moments notice.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice features We replaced our two upper floor bedroom single pane windows with your double hung tilt/clean. We can't believe the difference the windows made in heat retention and sound reduction.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Tuscany windows and sliding door Tuscany windows and sliding doors have a nice finish with white grids on the inside and black grids on the outside. HOWEVER customer service is VERY VERY EXTREMELY poor. I ordered windows in July, they came defective on two windows and one sliding door, it took 4-6 weeks for a rep to come out after we called to for Milgard to fix the problem, one replacement window came in mid November, the other window came in mid-November but was defective. I called Milgard and they denied having to take further action. Now I have to wait another few weeks for ANOTHER rep to come out to ascertain the problem, and then probably another six weeks for a replacement window. Even when leaving a message with a manager, there is no follow up and reply.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from One window doesn't crank shut One casement window only closes 95% and then gets stuck. It looks like a manufacturing issue.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Casement window screen have poor design The Milgard windows we have are great however the screen design is such that the clips do not contact properly when installing the screen from the inside. The clips float in their sockets and do not meet with the window frame most of the time. I've had to get needle nose pliers and wiggle them to their position, and the clips still will not work properly to make the screen frame flush with the window frame. The mild steel is so flimsy that a few have snapped off. So it is unlikely I will be able to wash any of these screens in the future. I'm hoping that there's a design upgrade to these clips.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Historically appropriate, beautiful casement windows I am very pleased with new Ultra casement windows. I did months of research into all different brands, materials, and product lines. I found exactly what I wanted in the Ultra windows, and for far less than my only other choice with the same options (top of the line Marvins for nearly double the price). I have an historic 1930s Spanish revival home in California. I was able to get casements in the right configuration and colors for the period. I have a noise issue in the neighborhood too, so I was able to get dissimilar size panes of glass in my windows, which makes the problem no longer noticeable. The tight fit of the casements also keeps it snug and quiet inside. I'm very happy about the lifetime warranty too. No one else offers that in a fiberglass window. Overall I am glad I went with Milgard, for the quality and the value, and the windows match my house's period perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Made such a difference. We replaced some terrible old crank windows in the lower level of our Montana home with these new Tuscany windows and it has already made such a difference with the temperature in the lower level. We are very happy with these windows even if they have only been in place for 3 months!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Questionable Quality Control Overall, I think we will be happy with the Thermally Improved Aluminum window. I hope it will prove it's worth, though I have my doubts caused by how the frame of the window seems less substantial for the size. That, along with the a less than stellar installation of the seal around the window frame itself. The Milgard factory caused a considerable delay in our construction time due their utter failure to provide the unit as ordered to meet exit code requirements. The hardware supplied was not correct and could not be adjusted without new units. In addition the first units were FAILED COMPLETELY with the seals around the insulated units. If the screens fit after its all installed I'll be surprised. We are grateful that Milgard did replace the failed units without charge, though we do understand from our supplier that the factory did argue the point, which to me is another spot on their record. The delay that the factory caused resulted in 3 weeks of time, and basically doubling the cost.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well Made, easy to install Windows are solid. I bought four of these. One must have been made by a new employee. It hangs on the locking pin when opening. The other three work smoothly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from the 4th set of windows was the first to be delivered unbroken We built a new house and finally decided on milgard styleline bronze windows. the sliding and picture windows arrived okay, but every casement window had cracked frames. They sent a second set about 2 weeks later, and ALL were cracked in the same places. The third set came another two weeks later, and ALL were cracked in the same places. The 4th set finally arrived, and they were unbroken. They are, however hard to use and don't seal tightly. In all, these windows took 2 months to be installed, delayed the home and allowed rain and weather into the site. I never did get any explanation on this problem, and would recommend anyone stay away from these casement windows.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from beautiful, but at least 2 of the screens are defective Happy to have casement windows to replace 25 year old wood casements. Very handsome and seem to be well made, but at least 2 of the screens have screening that has come loose along the edge, will need to be replaced.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Installation was quick and the windows look great! We had to replace 6 windows in the front of our house and I hired a contractor to select and install them. The old windows had a wooden lattice between the two panes and we wanted to keep the same look in the new windows. The windows, with a lattice, are very attractive and cost was significantly less than than replacing with the old manufacturer's windows. The only problem we incurred was the width of the window is 1/4" smaller than the old window and will require 3 new blinds.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Attractive windows. A bit early to review this product as they were just installed. However it is an attractive window with what appears to be good quality, and function as advertised.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This product has great features. We ordered 9 windows (two of which were 120"x60") most were casement windows. We chose Milgard becaause we have used them in other custonm homes. This was the only time that we had 2 defective casement windows. The Milgard technician was able to correct one casement with adjustments on site but the other casement (68"x48") had a defect in the casement window panel which was bowed out. I have sent pictures to Soco Windows in Austin. This caused the tech. to crack the window when he tried to repair it on site. All the other windows work well in opening & closing. The bow caused the window not to close completely as the bow made the upper right corner not to make contact with the upper locking mechanism. Thus this window panel will have to be replaced. This is new construction so we must proceed with final stuccoing of the house to meet construction deadline and owner occupancy by August 31st.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Casement Window Latch Alignment I ordered four Essence casement windows. Every one of the window's latches did not line up with the latch hardware on the window's frame to allow the window to close properly with the hand crank It was not a coincidence since all the windows were misaligned. There is something wrong in the manufacturing process that does not verify the latches are properly aligned. The picture below shows how the Milgard service technician had to move each latch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A well made window I've purchased and installed many windows over the last 38 years. I went to Milgard with a vacation home as the existing windows were Milgard and I wanted a uniformity with the new ones. I've been very pleased with the variety of Milgard windows I've installed: single hung, casement and in this case, Styleline casement. I had to change style and go with Vinyl because of new fire codes at this vacation home. I was worried it would look out of place on the shingled wall where the 2009 classic metal casements were already installed. While the frame is heavier than I'd have wanted to blend with the adjacent windows, it's handsome. And, as an added compensation, the operator is phenomenal. It is smooth, retracts somewhat and the locking mechanism is great.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Poor Support Caveat emptor! While we appreciate the technology and energy savings built into Milgard windows, the company’s customer support leaves a GREAT deal to be desired. Forewarned is forearmed. Here are two of several issues we have experienced: #1: After purchasing a double French door, two single French doors, and 30 plus windows for a major remodel, we decided that we wanted one more window. The color on the entire order had recently been discontinued. Milgard refused to make an additional window in the discontinued color. In these days of on demand paint colors mixed by computer, I consider Milgard’s lack of accommodation very disappointing. Buyer be warned. #2: We experienced difficulty locking the double French door. On May 5, 2017 a Milgard factory service tech determined that the lock needed to be replaced. We were told that someone would call with the next repair date to replace the lock. On May 31st, not having heard, we emailed to inquire about the repair. On June 7th Milgard replied telling us the next available repair date is July 13. We have not been able to lock those doors for over 2 months! Think about that. Buyer be warned. We can not recommend Milgard products.
